All the way back in June 2016 I wrote a well received blog post about tail call optimization in Elixir and Erlang. It was probably the first time I really showed off my benchmarking library benchee, it was just a couple of days after the 0.2.0 release of benchee after all.
Elixir is a relatively new programming language. José Valim, the language creator, pushed the first git commit 8 years ago and the release of v1.0 was announced on September 18, 2014. Compare that to the age of other programming languages like Ruby and Python, which are a few decades old. Elixir is a young fresh language.
In this article we see what a hash function is and what it can be useful for. We see how to calculate the hash of strings and files using the Erlang :crypto module and Elixir streams.
